I see basically nothing that's worthwhile in conversion therapy. There is clearly a lot that is harmful about it, particularly in cases where adults subject children to it against their will.
But I can't agree with how the proponents are making their case for this law, and I can't say I agree with the law, either.
GLBT people are not "perfect," because no one is. And even if we do not consider homosexuality to be a disease, which I do not, some consenting adults might not want to experience same-sex attraction. I don't see anything wrong with them seeking to change what they experience. Everyone else is allowed to try to change what they experience in all kinds of different ways. Some of them work, and some of them don't, and some of them are more or less transparent frauds. (Hi there, Scientology!)
Note also: If we were to follow the argument being offered in favor of this law, we would have to say that being a ginger isn't a disease... and so hair coloring should be considered a form of fraud. Remember, science says that hair coloring won't work in the long term either!
That doesn't seem right, does it?
