We all know what this term “Hat-trick” means in Football so what is the origin of the term Hat-Trick? This term that refers to a player who scores 3 goals comes from cricket.
The expression then moved beyond the field of cricket to Ice hockey, rugby and football. In Football, a player has to score 3 goals in the same match.
However in France, there’s a special distinction and it’s only called hat-trick when it’s 3 consecutive goals but there is such thing as an ultimate Hat-trick or the perfect hat-trick which means scoring with your right foot, left foot and head.

It’s very difficult to know in club football but the author of the first hat-trick at the world cup was Bert Patenude. He achieved this exploit during the first world cup in 1930. Patenaude scored 3 goals for the USA against Paraguay but his Hat-trick was only recognized 76 years later.
The match report stated that T.Florie was the second scorer and FIFA attributed the goal to A. Gonzalez against his own team. For a long time history recognized Guillermo Stabile who scored a hat-trick two days after Patenaude.
Some Hat-tricks will be remembered forever like Ronaldo’s hat-trick during Manchester United – Real Madrid in 2003. All of Old Trafford fans applauded Real Madrid El Fenomenol.
