The book of the acts of the apostles tells us the times of the early church and the first miracles attributed to the holy spirit, after Pentecost. And among these signs of the Holy Spirit occurred one of great importance; the book of the acts of the apostles tells us how one of the most important conversions occurred, the conversion of Saul who would later receive the name of Paul, the most important preacher during the primitive church. Paul's life was the demonstration that God's designs are mysterious and that the Lord pours out his grace as he wants.
Saul on his way to the city of Damascus received a miraculous vision of the Lord that transformed his life: "Suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, ´Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?´" Acts 9:3; but it was through the laying on of the hands of Ananias, a man devoted to Jesus, that Saul received the holy spirit in his heart and recovered the sight he had lost during the vision of Jesus: "Placing his hands on Saul, he said, ´Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—he sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.´" Acts 9:17.
And so it was that Saul, from a persecutor of Christians, became a preacher of the Kingdom of God and receive a new name, Paul became a new person enlightened by the Holy Spirit: "Saul spent several days with the disciples in Damascus. At once he began to preach in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God" Acts 9:20.
Paul's life has a very important significance in the new testament. Like Paul, all christians are called to follow his example, Paul from a sinful life went on to lead a righteous life before God and his brothers, and he was also empowered by the holy spirit to teach the mysteries of Christ, the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven.
