In this article, we will look at three core cards that have taken quite a fall over the past month. We will examine the reason why as well as if it may be a good buying opportunity for the new expansion coming around the corner.
1. Skeleton Heavy: Down 78%
A real fan favorite that took a huge hit with the core set refresh and the changes this card undertook. This card was changed from 2 to 3 mana and also put on the death squad rather than being a neutral card. No longer do we see the skeleton heavy in every deck as the value proposition is signifanctly hit by increasing the one mana. On top of that, it was added to a death squad that plays slow and uses low health monsters to trigger leech and drawing cards. Both of these things really tank the value of this card right now. The new ability that as added was afterlife: destroy the highest strength monster with one health. This is really only useful against war and deception where there are possibly one health monsters with buffs on them like a nokkvi warrior or ronellan sparrow. Something that could improve the value of this card would be adding one health to its ability target or seeing an anubian meta where the cards strength could be buffed.
2. Amazon Spearsoul: Down 80%
This card used to be a 4 strength 2 health creature before the core set changes. Now it is a 3 strength 2 health creature that gains one health for every amazon you control. Nature has seen a nerf overall and still likes to play wild heavy. This card had a tough time finding a spot before and the changes did not help. There were a few amazon cards added but nature has not seen a great pairing with the amazon team just yet. There has been lots of speculation on amazon getting a buff and looking toward the next expansion I think this card could be a low risk buy right now with plenty of upside.
3. Famished Ghoul: Down 80%
The ghoul saw a big spike right before the core set refresh went live based on speculation that never materialized. BWD has been flipped in the meta and so this card that saw some use in a budget BWD team now is left with little usability. 3 strength and 2 health for a four mana creature is too weak and its ability of drawing a card is not as valuable right now with BWD being nerfed. The future value for this card depends on a card draw meta returning for the death squad or a stronger nether synergy then death currently has.
Overall, all these cards are hovering around 8 cents right now from their 30 to 35 cent highs. The amazon is clearly the better buy out of the three right now given its potential upside and currently can be used with some effectives as a 3 strength 3 buffed health monster. I think we will see more volatility with the core cards over the next few weeks as more new cards hit the market and the meta continues to shift/stabilize. This is a great time to analyze the market as well as forge new cards you receive in order to gain a quick profit.
