Play Strategy: When to hit your opponent’s face or cards?
In this post, we will look at when is the best time to hit your opponent’s face or when to take out a monster. This will vary depending on your play style but we will use generalizations to make it easier for a new player to understand.
1. Board is empty: You have one monster down and your opponent has none. This is obviously the time you hit your opponent’s face.
2. Low health monster on other side: If you have a monster that has the stats of 2 attack and 3 health and your opponent has a card with 2 health and 2 attack, you should take that card out as your monster will survive and continue board control. Make sure to check any afterlife ability before doing so to ensure you do not create any further problems for yourself.
3. Frontline tank: This option is when you have a frontline tank and your opponent does not. If your opponent’s monster cannot take out your frontline or will die doing so, it is best to leave that monster alone and hit your opponent’s face with that frontline tank or another monster.
4. Opponent has low health: There is usually a turning point in the match where your strategy may shift. For me, I play aggro war so I want the match to end quickly. If we are reaching six or seven mana and my opponent has less than 10 health, I am almost always going to the opponent’s face no matter what. My opponent most likely has bigger monsters waiting and on the board at this time but it should not matter if you can kill your opponent quickly.
5. Afterlife ability: This is pretty straight forward but if you have a beneficial afterlife ability or a monster who benefits from your cards dying, you should attack your opponent’s cards to kill them off.
This is not an exhaustive list and strategy will change depending on the level you play at but this is a good review for a new player. I hope this is helpful for someone and if so, please comment or upvote.
