Ok, I know I have been writing too much about Gods Unchained these days. Please pardon me, but I am really hooked on the game. Haha.. When I started playing the game, I spoke about having the urge to purchase some Genesis Sale pack. The Genesis cards are limited edition cards that will not be on sale anymore after 29th October. Here are some information on the Genesis packs courtesy of GU.Cards:
In Gods Unchained, there is also a concept of shiny cards. Shiny cards basically adds more rarity to the card you have.
Buying and Opening Packs
In the end, I couldn't control my urge and bought 6 legendary packs and 24 rare packs. In total they cost me 0.96 ETH!
I think Gods Unchained is rising in popularity and they are doing well in their marketing front. They recently got seed funding of $15m from private investors and they have also sold over 26,000 ETH worth of cards so far which is almost $5m based on current price. Given that they are not that well-known yet, I see an opportunity where these Genesis cards may explode in price when they get mass adoption. I think with the funds available, they will be able to do rather good marketing in the future to push towards mass adoption. For now, the Gods Unchained team has also been smart to promote the game on every opportunity such as the incident where Blizzard banned a player for promoting his political stance during a live stream.
In any case, here are the legendary packs I bought,
Legendary packs are guaranteed to contain at least 1 legendary card and 1 rare or better card. On my first pack, I got lucky with 1 legendary card and 1 epic card! Also noticed that I got a legendary shadow card, which is supposed to be quite rare. I will talk more about this later.
The second pack was a bit meh. Only 1 legendary and a rare.
Same for my third pack...
On my fourth pack, I got lucky again. 1 legendary and 1 epic.
The fifth pack contains 1 shadow common card. Not too bad..
Nothing special from my final legendary pack and I even got a repeated legendary card :(
I also mentioned that I bought 24 rare packs. The reason behind this is to collect as many of the 380 Genesis cards as possible. I believe that each Genesis card will be worth something in the future regardless of the rarity. Of course rarer cards will certainly be more valuable.
I am not going to show all my 24 rare packs. I am just going to highlight 2 packs that I managed to get something better than rare. In the first screenshot, I managed to get a gold common card and an epic card. In the second screenshot, I managed to get an epic card on top of a rare card. Nothing spectacular in the remaining 22 packs.
Highlight of my purchase
My rarest card is the shadow version of the "Vengeful Sorceress". It is a legendary card, so it has a rarity of 0.5% and only 5% are Shadow version. That means there is only a 0.005 * 0.05 * 100% = 0.025% of getting this card. In fact, there are only 122 of these cards among the millions of cards sold currently so it can be even rarer. How much will the market pay for this when trading starts? :)
The only problem is that I don't think this is an exceptionally strong card. It has only 3 attack and 3 health which is rather low for a 7 mana card. The key strength is it can do a 3 damage to all enemy creatures and the hero when it is played. That can be table-turning in certain situations but I think it is quite uncommon.
Tradable chest or 6 more legendary packs?
Recently Gods Unchained announced the availability of tradable chests. There are only 5000 of legendary tradable chests. Each chest contains 6 legendary packs.
1 legendary chest costs 0.8064 ETH while 6 legendary packs cost 0.672 ETH. A premium is paid for the mystery of unopened packs and the option to sell an unopened pack. I have plans to spend some more for legendary packs, now with the tradable chests, I am unsure whether to buy a chest or to buy 6 packs directly. Will someone be able to help me out here? Haha...
