This is a video that I made several years ago when I was doing a bit of gold prospecting in the local area. I bought this Blue Bowl after reading a couple of articles about it and watching a youtube video that I found that talked about it. The purpose of this bowl is to separate the gold flakes from the sand in your concentrates, which is the sand mix that comes out of your sluce, or the sand in the bottom of your gold pan after you pan out all the lighter material.
I never found any gold in any of the local creeks, but I used the Blue Bowl to separate some gold flakes from a bag of concentrates that I bought on line. You can recover very fine gold flakes from sand if you sift the sand through a fine mesh classifier and run the blue bowl with the proper water flow for the fineness of the material that you're working with. The bowl works by carrying the lighter sand out of the bowl through the hole in the middle, while leaving the heaver gold flakes behind in the bottom of the bowl. The finer the material that you work with, the more careful you have to be about the rate of water flow so that the gold won't be carried away with the sand.
This video is a basic demonstration that I did on how the blue bowl works. I set the bowl on a 5 gallon bucket that is inside a cut off plastic 55 gallon barrel. The 5 gallon bucket catches the sand so that it won't get into the water pump. Basically, the sand falls to the bottom of the bucket, and the water flows over the top of the bucket and back into the cut off barrel where the water pump is.
Thanks for stopping by my page to watch my video! I hope you find it interesting!
