This uncommon “White Light GoldenHour” phenomenon appeared a good 2 hours before sundown on the island of Koh Lanta, in southern Thailand.
Grey clouds, blue patches
On this day, thick billowing clouds were interspersed with patches of blue sky. As the sun and the clouds moved across the sky, we had periods of grey combined with occasional bursts of bright white sunshine.
Stream of white light
In the late afternoon, as the sun started to descend, and as it again slipped behind some clouds, the light became even dimmer. But the ever-bright sunlight found some open patches in the clouds, pouring its rays through the clouds. The bright white light reflected not only off the surface of the Andaman Sea, but also off the shiny pebbles spread along the beach.
