At the end of the day, do what’s best for you.
But you did ask for our input and thoughts, so here is mine.
I agree with a lot of what you have said, like the game needs money coming in to keep it going or everything just goes downhill. And I feel like any one person trying to do it all alone would end the same way you did, burnt out. Why because everything rests on your shoulders and even if you’re good at dealing with stress. You slowly get worn down over time.
As for Play2Earn I think there are a lot of projects out there that have been managed poorly and that is why we have seen so many go under add in all the bad projects that just straight up rug pulled and it makes for a very sad and disappointed market.
Let’s be honest a lot of people have been left with a bad taste in their mouth after losing money on play 2 earn games.
So where does play2earn go wrong?
Most games I have played play out like normal games, it is new and players like the game initially, the game gains attention when players start getting high value items and selling them on the market. But as players flood to the game the market gets flooded and slowly everything starts to go down hill as the economy collapses. Players start leaving as they see their investment disappear and devs get discouraged as the player base drops and they deal with complaints.
To be fair I don’t believe that all games start out with just being a money grab. They build and have good intentions but it just does not work out most times.
But why?
I believe it is both with the way we sell play2earn games and how the community perceives them.
Play2earn games need to be seen as a business and like any business, a business needs cash flow or the doors shut. It’s not rocket science, it’s fact. The people buying products in the game need to see the game as a game and not an investment. Investors want a return on their investment and gamers want to play something that they enjoy. They have totally different goals. It all comes back to knowing your customers.
If you look at all play2earn games and say that they are designed with the sole purpose of making money, I would agree they are pyramid schemes.
If you said that play2earn games are games in which you own your ingame items. Then I would disagree and say that they are games and not designed to earn you money, but yes you can sell your ingame assets for money.
I do not believe that you should start again, I believe that you should just keep building Golem Overlord.
Some of the community have stuck around and kept playing even after a year of you not being active. I feel like that is all the proof you need to know that you have a good game on your hands and that people would play it as a game and have fun while doing so.
Pull away from the popular play2earn investment promotion and just market the game as a game and your the owner of the game. I think moving away will only cause more issues and solana is blockchain as well, so you would just be making another blockchain game somewhere else .
Anyways those are my thoughts .
I wish you all the best and I hope to be able to play Golem Overlord for years to come.
