One the world’s largest single alcohol buyers will now have the Canadian Monopoly on controlling Marijuana in Ontario killing thousands of entrepreneurial dreams and increasing their tax revenue while stealing the potential profit of its own ambitious citizens.
You don’t have to be a pothead to see how incredibly wrong this is.
Let’s get real, government monopolies have never helped lift the up people’s bank accounts or created more jobs. When so many people had hope and dreams in Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and thought when he announced legalization the country cheered and paraded. The entire place became happier with the prospect of a new sustainable industry in Canada that many people without any government support are already leaders in their neighbourhoods.
From production to processing and marketing this is sure to be a huge boom for the Canadian economy and now the only people who will profit will be the government and the LCBO. The Liquor Control Board of Ontario is one of and arguably the largest single purchaser of alcohol in the world. It purchases alcohol for over 13,000,000. When the LCBO makes an order breweries and distilleries and vineyards have to open up new factories and build new farms for specific crops. You can imagine how well treated their sales reps are when going aboard sourcing booze.
The LCBO in turn isn’t even a government organization it’s actually mostly owned by the Coors and Molson beer monopolies. They pay hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes and keep everything running smooth under their control. So the government sees no problem continue the deal they have. In all fairness they have recently allowed some types of alcohol to be sold in shops other than their own brand location recently. Though they still dictate when and where it's sold. As rule all alcohol is sold at one shop owned by the conglomerate, partly foreign owned I should add.
They’ve also been accused of throttling back on the brands that compete with their own, which is not only immoral when you are supposed to be providing a service but it’s also illegal. After enough smaller breweries joined forces The Beer Store, which a branch of the LCBO had change its ways and stop blocking new up and coming brands from success.
Now weed will only be sold, however then end up doing it, through LCBO approved places and that’s still up in the air. This is heartbreaking for many Canadian who were expecting a bigger role in the New World Order and possibly lift themselves up financially. Seems our P.M. needs another tropical vacation to visit wealthy foreign dignitaries at the tax payers’ expense.
I won’t mention all the new laws that will also be implemented to ensure people are only have as fun as the feds allow. Sure, some of those laws are common sense like don’t smoke and drive, not being under 19 years old. All the pop up shops now are going to be closed cutting jobs to people who are general pretty easy going folks.
This is truly disappointing and I expect it to be a hot topic the next election. Let’s hope so.
