Hello everyone , whilst Steem was down yesterday South Africa legalized the use of cannabis. The Constitutional court says it is against the rights of an adult.
This was what the judgement said.
JUDGMENT: The criminal prohibition of possession, use or cultivation of cannabis by an adult person for personal consumption in private is an infringement of the right to privacy of an adult person and constitutionally invalid. (Minister of Justice v Prince)
There a few conditions and here they are. You cannot consume it in pubic. It cannot be distributed and sold. It is prohibited to give it to minors which is rather obvious and I supposed it needed to be stated.
South Africa is the third country to legalize cannabis following Lesotho and Zimbabwe. Cannabis or Marijuana is widely cultivated across the country for medicinal purposes for the United kingdom and the rest of Europe.
Durban Poison is rated in the top 20 world wide for its strain of Cannabis. This has been a huge source of income for rural farmers for decades as it is seen as a cash crop. Maybe this was part of the land grab deal lol.
I think this news is good for those that need it for medical reasons and I see no harm in allowing it and agree as long as it is not smoked in public it should be all ok. I have some thoughts on it as I think most likely there were too many smoking it to ban it and with no policing what is the point. I can see at some point it will be sold openly as this is just the start.
I think this came as a surprise as most of us didn't even know this was happening. I suppose if you don't use it why would you know. I just wish they could sort everything else out that needs sorting.
