Five finance ministers in three years. That is not bad for a Government that was captured by a crooked family. The Government needs stability as the currency is being punished for all the upheavals. The latest casualty Nhlanhla Nene resigned yesterday after he too admitted he had met with the Gupta's. He originally said he hadn't so the trust had been broken.
The State Capture Commission of Inquiry is still going on and at least is slowly winkling out the crooked. It could have been worse and Nene could have signed the contract that would have bought a Nuclear power station contract that the country couldn't afford. He did resist this one but which deals didn't he resist? Having the Finance Minister in your pocket is the same as having your hand in the cookie jar permanently. I would love to be travelling somewhere and run into a Gupta.
His replacement is the Governor of the Reserve Bank and hopefully comes with no baggage. Everyone including the opposition party think it is the right choice as he knows what will be needed to guide the country out of the latest recession.
There are 3 Ministers still in the cabinet who met with the Gupta's and The President needs to deal with those ones next. The ministers Malusi Gigaba, Nomvula Mokonyane, and Bathabile Dlamini.need to vacate their posts and hope to get out unscathed. Prison would be too kind a sentence for this lot as they have stolen from the people that voted them in.
removing the bad apples will help stabilize things but will they get them all. There are numbers of officials way down in the pecking order who have been helping themselves to riches for far too long.
