Доверяй, но проверяй "Doveryai, no proveryai" is a Russian proverb meaning "Trust but Verify" was made popular by President Ronald Reagan. He made it's use popular when referring to nuclear disarmament.
Most people would come to a general agreement that leaders in government and society can be trusted to lead. However given complete freedom to "run the show", all human are easily corrupted by power and money. How then can a country keep it's leaders accountable for their actions.
Every country has its own form of governance but they tend to be fairly outdated. Most of the time leaders are really only made accountable once every 4 to 5 years where they risk not being reelected. Meanwhile, the technology has enabled decisions to be made in minutes on a global scale and even the smallest of decisions can have consequences that last for decades. This discrepancy in time from which the decision is made and is available to the public is too long and surely unacceptable in 2018.
As such, we have to start finding new ways and incorporate new technologies to monitor large entities like governments on a minute by minute basis. Such information should also be both easily accessible by the public and immutable; uneditable / unchangeable by anyone once included. The most obvious form to store such public information is the blockchain!
When properly implemented, all tax money above a certain amount (say USD 1 mil worth) should be required by law to be immediately recorded on the blockchain prior to expenditure. Every citizen would have a crypto wallet which would allow them to view these decisions and choose to vote for or against these decisions; all of which is recorded on the blockchain.
This would allow the citizen to monitor every decision made by the government and vote for a minute by minute frequency for every major decision made by the government. Not wait for another 5 years for the opportunity to make a single vote.
Watch out governments, the people are watching you.
