Poverty Inc.

This documentary was written by Michael Matheson Miller, and it focuses on how some things may seem like a good idea but in the long run they will not benefit you at all. The documentary states that when charitable solutions are offered to third world countries actually hurt them more then it helps them. It also states that when third world countries get donations that help them, they will become reliant on it. In this documentary over 200 people were interviewed from different countries. They all talked about poverty where they lived and what caused it and how people survived in those conditions. One of the ways people could improve people being poor would be opening more businesses that would be willing to hire them. They are not poor by choice, I do not think a lot of people realize that they are lacking resources. If they had the proper resources they would probably make a liveable living, instead of trying to survive on 1 to 2 dollars a day.
I thought that this point of view was interesting but a little harsh. I understand where they are coming from. A lot of people think that donating supplies to the people in need but in reality actually hurts them.Because then they become kind of reliant on the things that people send them and what are they supposed to do when what they have runs out. They have nothing because they are relying on other people. Which while watching this documentary, I realized that when celebrities are donating food and such to people that are not are privileged, they probably feel great about it. But they do not realize the unseen in this situation, meaning that they will use what they give them, but then they might become reliant on what gets sent to them. As someone said in this documentary the best way to help them is supplying them with the resources they need. Put more jobs near where they live or any form of work. Majority of them will run to that opportrunity. If people give them opportunities they will take them. Teach them a skill they can make profit off of, or have them make something useful and then have them sell it. “The reason there will be no change is because the people who stand to lose from change have all the power. And the people who stand to gain from change have none of the power,” as stated by Machiavelli in the documentary. She explained that it explains the global aid system.
These entrepreneurs are trying to benefit the society, prove it in any possible way. Because these people are still people and do not deserve to struggle they way these people are. It does not help that people are tearing down what little resources they have such as a camping ground. Like what are you benefitting tearing it down, besides running the only home these people had. They are suppressing these people to keep them where they are and are not helping in a good way. In this documentary the people that live in poverty are not incompetent but just disconnected from the rest of the world.
