What happens, with whom, and why is it entrepreneurial?
In this film many organizations dedicated to fight poverty along with entrepreneurs in developing countries were interviewed. The film was directed around post 2010 Haiti. It spoke over how the help of NGO's actually does more harm than it does good. Giving multiple free resources to help with disaster has turned into a permanent service. It also talked about adopting children who have parents that still love their children has become a problem. Instead of more anti-poverty initiatives, entrepreneurship needs to take action. This will allow jobs to be given and people will be able create a living and raise their children rather than forever being stuck in poverty.
Why is this film interesting?
This film really got my attention because I had always seen anti-poverty organizations as a good thing. I never saw it as "doing good gone wrong". It was interesting to change my perspective and see how initiating entrepreneurship could make such a bigger impact. I always thought of how much help these organizations have been, but now I see there is a time and place for help but entrepreneurship and helping countries get back on their feet through business is a much more successful approach.
How does this aspect of entrepreneurship affect society?
In this case entrepreneurs of non-poverty organization are actually harming the society they are intending to help. By starting these companies they keeping the countries in poverty rather than bringing them out of it, for they are constantly relying on free resources. By helping them create business and jobs they are able to create a life and succeed on their own. For example, instead of adopting a child from a parent who still loves and wants them, starting a business the parent can work at will allow them to make an income and care for their own child. In this case, less families will be broken and more jobs comes available to build their country back up. Entrepreneurship is an important aspect in every part of the world.
How does society affect this aspect of entrepreneurship?
Society benefits this aspect of entrepreneurship more than it benefits society. These organizations are having multiple donations and money coming in from society that is able to give and in return it is keeping hurting countries in poverty. If these countries were to build businesses as get back on their feet these organizations would not be needed like they are and that would hurt this aspect of society. Entrepreneurs are only successful if society has a need for what they are giving, therefore as long countries in poverty rely on these organizations they will continue to flourish.
What is the interaction between this aspect of entrepreneurship and society like?
This aspect of society and entrepreneurship interact by the organizations giving these hurting countries free good and services which digs them deeper into poverty. Along with people adopting children while being unaware they are still wanted by their families, artists creating songs that give the wrong impression of countries in poverty, creating businesses that give back to countries in need, etc. Countries now rely on getting everything handed to them in hopes of pulling their country out of the situation they are in when in reality they are falling more into it. On the other hand they are in need so it is helping anti-poverty businesses in countries that don't necessarily need the benefit. The hope of benefiting society is reversed and actually benefiting entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship is a need and is what makes the world go around, it is truly what these countries need.
