DESSEL The final day of Graspop had a bizarre highlight for Germany's Annie on Sunday night. During Rammstein frontman Till Lindemann's concert, she suddenly got a dead fish, which the singer threw into the audience, against her head. The irony? Annie is a staunch vegan. ‘It disgusts me, but the experience makes you think: fuck it.’
It was one of those moments that make a festival legendary. Till Lindemann, living up to his reputation as a shock-rocker, brought out a bowl of dead fish during the song Fish On and started eagerly throwing them at the audience.
For Annie, it became a very personal experience indeed. ‘Everything happened at lightning speed,’ she says, pointing to the fish remains on her clothes. "The fish flew through the air and landed right on my head. My cap flew off and suddenly I had that animal in my hands."
‘Fish about my clothes, but fuck it’
For Annie, it was a moment of disbelief, mostly because of her lifestyle. ‘I am the worst person to catch the damn fish, because I am also vegan,’ she laughs. "So it couldn't be worse. It really disgusts me, there's fish all over my clothes."
Still, amid the chaos and smell, she can see the humour in it. ‘It's so funny, everyone around me laughed and thought it was the funniest thing ever,’ she says. Whether she could laugh herself? ‘A little bit yes,’ she admits. ‘But maybe not really until I showered.’
