I watched as the two cranes worked, tearing down the once thriving block of landmark buildings. Historically speaking, the rumble was significant. The entire city block was part of an area which had previously been a large segment of the downtown of the city of Wisconsin Rapids. It took only 10 hours to demolish over 100 years of history.

Eventually this expanse of buildings would no longer be the center of business enterprise. Expansion east created more modern buildings and of course Walmart and other stores drew the public away from the old downtown area. Making the entire block of historic buildings expendable, I will be interesting to see what replaces them.
