My Lecturer (Yes, am a student of Archaeology, and it the scientific study of human evolution )
gave us an assignment to research about the latest happening in Hawaii for the past two weeks, and surprisingly Hawaii has been undergoing volcanic eruption and several people have been forced to leave after a magnitude 6.9 earthquake shook Hawaii's Big Island, the biggest to hit the area in decades.
The new eruption from Mount Kilauea caused the emergency evacuation of at least 1,800 residents from the small rural community of Leilani Estates and surrounding areas.
Residents are dealing with a number of issues such as: molten lava bubbling up through cracks on streets; several earthquakes and poisonous fumes in the air.
Kilauea, one of the world's most active volcanoes and one of five on the island, has been in constant eruption for 35 years. Lava flows from the volcano have covered 48 square miles (125 square km), according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Scientists say it is nearly impossible to predict how long an eruption will last.
No injuries or deaths were reported, but Hawaii Governor David Ige activated the Hawaii National Guard to provide emergency help.
