1449: Constantine XI Dragases Palaiologosis is crowned Emperor of Byzantium in Mystras.
1454: Gennadius Scholarius becomes Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople. He is the first Patriarch to be sworn in following the fall of the Constantinople.
1821: Theodoros Kolokotronis arrives in Kardamyli, located on the Mani Peninsula, to prepare the uprising of the subjugated Greeks.
1828: Ioannis Kapodistrias arrives in Nafplio to undertake the governance of the newly established Greek State. He is greeted with much enthusiasm by the people.
1919: The Socialist Workers' Party of Greece (SEKE), later succeeded by the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), holds its first open gathering in Athens.
