454 BC: The six-year war between the Athenians and Persians in Egypt ends. 20,000 Athenians are killed.
1913: The Bulgarians retreat. They plunder and set fire to Doxato in Drama, killing 650 people, mainly women and children.
1939: Georgios Gennimatas is born. Gennimatas goes on to become a MP and a minister, and a founding member of PASOK.
