Yesterday we painted the eggs red.
But do you know why the eggs are stained red?
The eggs are stained on Holy Thursday which is the day of the Last Supper where Christ offered bread and wine as symbolism for His body and His blood, ready to be sacrificed to free the world from the bonds of sin.
Christian tradition wants the eggs a symbol of fertility and the beginning of a new life cycle, to be colored red because they symbolize the Blood of Christ.
According to one version the Virgin Mary took a basket of eggs and offered them to her Son's guards begging them not to torment him. When her tears fell on the eggs, they were red.
They also say that the egg symbolizes the tomb of Christ that was hermetically closed, like the egg shell but hid in it "Life," since Christ came out of it and rose again.
