What could possibly be the reason for this huge amount of mercury in Faroese people?
Let's find out! The Faroese have hunted whales/dolphins, for centuries and continue to this day. As humanity creates more and more pollution, a lot of that pollution goes into the sea, especially plastic bags and other daily items we use, (Mostly items made of plastic). The creatures that live in the sea have a difficult time to know if the garbage in the sea is actually food or not and then they eat it.
So, the reason for the huge amount of mercury in the Faroese, is because they hunt and eat pilot whales, and the pilot whales contain a lot of toxic substances (Because of pollution), which one of is mercury. The Faroese eat the whales, then they basically consume the toxic substances as well.
