One of the features that could make this site more social would be a personal calendar that everyone has on their page. It could be a place where the user can post their upcoming events and other users can check on it (and make their own comments) as they go. This would give users a place to connect and organize their events. People can use the calendar to let the community know when something is happening, or even for personal uses to remind themselves they have to be somewhere.
When you click on a users name, on the tabs can be calendar. It will be for 6 months ahead and new dates will get added daily. When you click on a date a submit a story page will open and when you make your post it will get posted on the feed as well as your calendar date. Then that date will turn to a different colour so you know there is an event on it. Maybe we can have a symbol that people can click on in case we want multiple entries for each date. But one should be enough to start. You can also add a date to any post your are writing, there will be the option added on the submit a post page.
If we stick to the post format as it is now this can be implemented easier and give people the option to add dates to any of their posts. There can also be an event tab and the 10 most popular events from each day can be showcased on it. The easiest way to do this would be to have a tab that leads to a calendar that anybody can click on a date and when you click on a date a feed comes up for that date as it does for the hot and trending pages. I guess, if we do it that way, we don't need to limit it to ten, as the user can keep scrolling. But maybe we can try a different UI for it.
This would give users a reason to use this site for social planning and organizing their work and it could further help to bring the community together when a date is important.
