The heart or mind that gives thanks is in a positive state of mind. Therefore, giving of thanks is to change the state of mind from anxious to serene and tranquil. When you’ve achieved this state, you must do everything to keep it, therefore the need to guard your mind always. To guard your mind do the following:
Create your destiny using your God given power of the mind
To ensure positive outcomes in life, make sure your mind is always in a state of joy and peace. Find something to be happy about, sing a joyful song in your heart, not necessarily a ‘church’ song because many of them are quite depressing.
In the book of Philippians, Paul wrote under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to think on these things:
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true,
whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report,
if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—
meditate on these things.
Philippians 4:7
The implication of this is that you choose what you think about, not denying facts but not focusing on depressing facts.
What do you do with negative facts? Plan how to change them to what you want and this is best attained in a state of peace of mind, not anxiety. If it is bothering you, enter into a state of prayer to cast your burden on Him. It is impossible to come up with the best solution in a state of anxiety. But pursue peace of mind first.
Watch the company you keep. Watch what and who you listen to in all your waking hours and especially when you are about to sleep. Avoid everything that will raise your anxiety level. Those who see how bad things are must not infect you. Take care of what you watch on the screen, what you listen to on the radio and what you read in the newspapers. Most of the time, you don’t need more than the headlines to catch the news.
All things are working together for your good
