A couple of weeks back I posted about the return of Six String Bliss (on Facebook too). It's my favourite guitar podcast. Another episode is out now where they interview Brian Wampler of Wampler Pedals. Brian also has a podcast called Chasing Tone. That is mainly about gear, but has a similar feel to the Bliss. PT brings up the time Brian broke a guitar in a demo video. I had to look it up. Ouch!
Pipes and PT talk about whether kids are still getting into guitar. My son played for a bit before getting into video games. My daughter plays bass, so that's good enough for me. Kids do have a lot of other distractions these days. They don't have so many guitar heroes to inspire them when so much music is made on computers. There are still lots of guitar bands out there, but maybe kids don't aspire to be in that type of band. That's bad for the guitar industry.
The show will be running a series on six iconic pedals. Before they named them I guessed four of them and missed one that I actually own. I won't give them away. What would be on your list?
The main show page has not been updated, but you can find the podcast feed on iTunes and elsewhere.
They are doing an 'afterparty' on Soundcloud.
The Bliss was away for several years and in that time various members of the community started their own podcasts. I'm not sure that any are still going, so it's good to have the original back.
- Not About the Gear is my show. I'm not saying it's dead. The schedule is erratic and I would like to do more.
- Alfie had his Rantcast. I met up with him when I visited Australia.
- Rhod and friends had From Where We Stand that covered a song (in both senses) each time.
- Larry had his Ashbrooke Music show that featured some cool interviews, but I'm not sure if that is still available.
Doing a podcast is a lot of work. You have to prepare material, record, edit, publish etc. I couldn't conceive of doing it weekly as some people do.
Bliss out!
