Old guitar went kaput
My old electric guitar broke and I’ve been wanting to get a new electric guitar for quite a while now, but didn’t really want to spend too much on a brand new one. So I was casually scrolling through marketplace, and then found an old used guitar for cheap.
It’s an Xcort (Cort) electric guitar. Nothing super fancy, but actually a pretty solid guitar if you take care of it. It has two humbucker pickups, which basically means it gives a thicker, fuller sound. Good for rock, distortion, heavier tones.
It also has a whammy bar, which lets you bend the pitch of the strings. I haven't used a whammy bar and quite keen to learn it.
So I picked it up.
At first glance, it didn’t look great honestly.😄 I almost regretted my decision.
The guitar was in pretty rough shape. Strings were old and rusty, fretboard looked dry, everything felt a bit neglected.
So got to work on it. First thing was removing the old strings. They were long overdue for replacement. After that, I took off the knobs and a few parts just to clean things properly.
Spent some time just wiping everything down. The fretboard especially needed deep cleaning. It was dirty and super dry, so I applied some lemon oil and let it soak in. Immediately it started to look better.
Then came the setup part.
Adjusted the truss rod a bit, fixed the action so it’s not too high or too low. Took a bit of trial and error there, not gonna lie. I’m not an expert at this, had to do a lot of research on youtube.
Finally, put on a fresh set of strings.
And honestly, it turned out way better than I expected. It feels clean, smooth, and actually plays really nice now. No buzzing and no stiffness.
It took me a whole Saturday, but in the end it was quite satisfying. I've been playing it a lot these past few days. Quite satisfied in the end.
