Greater restriction on gun ownership may not end all violent crime but it is a deterrent to crimes of passion. Look no further than the tragic murder-suicide of the Short family (PA). Megan and Mark Short were separating. On 7/18, Megan called the cops after a domestic dispute. No one was arrested. Mark bought a gun the NEXT day. On 8/6, he used it to kill his dog, three kids and wife. Then himself.
Mark, an unstable man, had a history of intimidating his wife. I'm not downplaying his culpability. However, we can also push for sound policy that may prevent similar tragedies in the future.
