With the public fear of guns amping up, a "March for Our Lives" protest is being carried out across the USA, with support in Canada as people mobilize to join in the march on this side of the border.
It's being called a student or youth rally for more gun control. One slogan I heard is along the lines of:
"Children's lives matter more than gun rights."
It reminds me of the Simpsons show and phrase where a woman says "won't somebody please think of the children" whenever there was an issue going on that people argued about in Springfield.
Shift the issue from the right to self-defense, onto the helpless and innocent children and appeal to emotions in order to blind people from thinking about an issue correctly. Who cares about the right to self-defense, that's just a dream nowadays. How dare you stand up for yourself in a time of crisis and be responsibly able to deal with shit happening to you. Nah, just beg the centralized authority to protect you, as you wait for them to arrive and stop someone from murdering you.
No, it's not right that children are being murdered. No, it's not right that anyone is murdered. But the reality is that you can't prevent anyone from murdering someone if they want to. If they want to, they can use a gun, knife, bat, hands, or other means to do it. You can try to ban anything you want to try to prevent people from doing something that harms another. But as the saying goes:
"When guns are outlawed, only outlaws have guns."
What can be done, however, is to allow people to be prepared and vigilant to deal with threats of violence, such as potential for others to murder them. This means people need to be able to protect themselves.
Since guns do exist, banning them won't stop people from using guns to commit crimes if they want to because they can get them on the black market. Criminals don't care about laws. Laws don't stop criminals from getting guns to do bad things with. Banning guns, or making gun ownership harder to do for regular honest people, is make it harder for regular honest people to get a gun to protect themselves.
I went to pass a gun course in Canada. If I wanted to own a gun, I have to ask for a gun owner permit from the police. You have to fill out a form. There is a section that asks you why you want to have a gun, for what reason. One of the options is "Self-Defense" or "Protection", something like that. We were told in the class that if you choose that option, you will NOT be given a permit for gun ownership.
I repeat, in Canada you are not allowed to request for a gun license if you say you want to own a gun for self-defense of protection. That is how cowardly we are being treated. You are not allowed to defend yourself with a gun. You have to call and wait for an authorized authority to come to save and protect you.
Because that's what is going to happen when you are being violated, right?
"Please hold your violation for 1 minute while I dial 911. Also, please stop for a few minutes for the time required for police to arrive and defend me because I am not allowed to do it myself."
On the gun permit application, you can only choose hunting related reasons to own a gun. Some people who have guns, have used them to defend themselves and stop aggressors in home invasions where their lives where threatened, and they have been charged with a crime for doing so. It's backwards insanity...
Self-defense is a being destroyed. We are being conditioned into irresponsible babies who aren't allowed to act and stand up for ourselves. We are being made into cowards who beg others to defend us because we aren't being permitted to defend ourselves.
People who blindly support gun control and the removal of gun ownership are totally clueless as to what is required for people to be free and able to stop violence in society. There are millions of people who own guns. Do you see millions of acts of violence against other humans with guns? No. Because most people are not violent towards other humans and won't use guns that way.
Even if everyone was prevented from owning a gun if the gun banning idiots had their way, and they were prevented from defending themselves in a crisis situation like a mass shotting where they could easily stop the aggressor, criminals could still get guns to perform their acts of evil. The police in many school shootings don't even enter to area to stop them, because they aren't obliged to do so. The fantasy of centralized authority being there to protect us citizens is a just that, a fantasy, myth and lie.
If we aren't allowed to defend ourselves, we can't even count on ourselves to do anything but run, hide and cower in fear when there is a public shooting taking place.
