This isn't something likely to change your mind about guns one way or the other but some historical context is always nice to have. While the reasons that gun culture evolved the way it did may not apply quite as strongly as they once did, that doesn't mean they have gone away completely. While the dangers that prompted the 2nd Amendment may not seem as immediate, they will never go away completely and it is impossible to predict when they may rise again.
