Just returned from fireworks display, which was great, thanks to the local council for arranging this. The council tries to arrange for this event annually over the weekend near Guy Fawkes day.
There was a big crowd and everyone had a fantastic time.
For those of you who are unaware, Guy Fawkes day is a commemoration celebrated annually on 5th of November in UK.
Guy Fawkes was a Catholic and with the help of his associates, tried to assassinate Protestant King James 1 to restore Catholic monarch to the throne.
They tried to blow up the House of lords with the gun powder stockpiled underneath the houses and Fawkes was in charge of guarding the gun powder.
Prompted by anonymous letter, the officials searched Westminster house on November 5th, 1605 and Fawkes was arrested. Later he was tortured and executed to death by hanging. He broke his neck whilst climbing up the ladder to the noose and died. His lifeless body was quartered and the bpdy parts were thrown over the four corners of the kingdom as a warning for the traitors.
5th of November is celebrated as an annual public day of thanksgiving for tge plot’s failure to kill King James 1.
You can read the famous gun powder plot in detail from Wikipedia.
Here are few pics from the fireworks. I’m not impressed with the photos.
Have a great time.
