These beautiful gardens, 10 km southeast of Nuwara Eliya, are a peaceful retreat. Highlights include a rose garden, a Japanese garden, a collection of orchids, cedars and giant cypress trees. The entrance is very steep for foreigners. The planting season runs from January to the end of March and, at that time, the gardens are not very beautiful.
Hakgala Garden is open daily from 08:00 to 17:30. The nursery closes at 15:00. Wheelchairs can be rented for a small fee. Although light vehicles can enter the gardens, it is advisable to explore the Hakgala Gardens if you want to explore the many beautiful places in this very compact garden.
