Time to Get Spooky!
It's almost that time of year again of when spooks, ghosts, monsters ghouls and witches come out for the night, that is the night of Halloween. Dating back to pagan times, Halloween has always been celebrated in the UK by children carryoing out 'trick or treat' enjoying copious amounts of sweets and also causing mischief, in fact another name for Halloween in the United Kingdom is 'Mischief Night' where teens run around knocking on doors and running, throwing toilet paper, eggs and generally getting up to no good.
Unfortunately, nowadays, Halloween has become somewhat commercial, where retailers have jumped onto the bandwagon, selling everything from pumpkins, pumpkin carving kits to spooky sweets and fancy dress. If it wasn't bad enough that this festival has been turned into a commercial enterprise, those who consider themselves PC (politically correct) spurt out on social media on how it is just a form of begging (get a life!). These people are the real ghouls!
What we have done in our village is really good, if you want to participate in Halloween and don't mind children knocking then all you do is place a pumpkin outside your house, I think this is a great way of encouraging a long established tradition without upsetting those who don't want to participate.
Personally, I have a bucket of treats and can't wait for the little monsters to knock.
