I love seeing the amazing Halloween costumes people come up with. This is the one I am most proud of from a few years ago.
It was a ton of work but well worth it. I started with a box which we spray painted with metallic silver. I took a spare Android phone I use for app development testing and wrote a custom program to scroll source code over and over.
I had an old radio shack multi-meter I was throwing out anyway and took the gauge out of it and wrote a program for the Arduino chip powering the entire costume to send varied voltage to the pins, which causes the gauge to float back and forth. Also controlled by the Arduino chip is the nightrider blue LEDs that go back and forth. The arms and legs are dryer ducting. The head is a lampshade with some solder for the antenna (hard to see in the picture).
Also hard to see is the outdoor power outlets on the side (right by hand) with an extension cord plugged into it. Also a large 200mm PC case fan with RGB lighting on the back that looks like a jetpack. The insides have wires everywhere, but I was so happy with how it came out. My son loved it and won $50 gift card for the town's Halloween contest that year.
I don't think I will ever top this, but we have done some really cool things in since then.
Favorite costumes of 2017 found around the net.
A little cheesy, but I really love it. I saw one similar to this but the wagon was a pirate ship, was a friend of ours that made it. Freaking amazing.

This one takes the cake for cuteness.

I have a soft spot for Minecraft costumes, and this one is great.

This one gave me a chuckle out loud, especially the title "My friend drinks and knows things".
Ok, this is just freaking amazing. Parenting of the year right there. Definitely my favorite one.
