When I saw tatting for a first time, so delicate and precise, I couldn't believe it was a work of human hands. I delighted in intricate patterns and decided to learn how to make them. Why?
Maybe I wanted to form something so beautiful with my own hands. Or just to prove to myself that I can possess every skill I want to.
As I decided, I did.
I'm far from forming difficult necklaces or large serviettes, but I've reached a level that satisfies me. It's enough that I can sometimes cut myself off from everyday life and concentrate on making some modest bracelet, earrings or a small napkin.
I can say that I do it for pleasure only. Although it happens that my work fails and I start a few times from scratch, then I'm getting angry. When it comes to tatting, it’s often not worthwhile to repair it - untangling the lace is extremely troublesome, it's better to start again. What can be demotivating, of course.
That was the case with the choker - during the four days I had five approaches, tried different threads and patterns and finally gave up. But after a few months I started again and succeeded.
Unfortunately, it turned out that I can't wear it, because I don't tolerate anything that tightens my neck… I tried to wear it at home to get used to it, nothing of it! After two minutes I got the feeling I was suffocating... I've almost heard the pulsing of my blood that couldn't get into the brain 😅. In fact, the necklace isn't too tight, it's just my neck hates such a closeness.
But, as I mentioned, I do it mainly for pleasure, so it's okay 😉
Such a hobby doesn't cost much, the main tools are hands, shuttles, and threads:
A small crochet, scissors, and the needle are also required... And time, lots of time! And beads, sometimes. I have seen beautiful tatting jewelry with semi-precious stones and Swarovski crystals - these things can be very expensive.
Christmas is coming up and I would like to make a lace "outfit" for Christmas baubles, something like this:
Yeah, I would like to, but it's so difficult to start! I haven't made tatting Christmas decorations yet, so I expect a lot of attempts and mistakes with new patterns. Although I know that once I start the job, it will be difficult to stop.
I hope, I will be able to show my new works soon!
