Happiness for me is seeing my children wild and free.
It is seeing them getting to explore the world around them and really interact with their natural environment.
Seeing their excitement when they learn and discover things all by themselves.
And allowing them to live close to the earth.
2 years ago, I done a 2 month Trek in the Alpujarra's which is a region within the Sierra Nevada mountain range in the south of Spain with my 2 daughters, a friend
We woke up every morning in the mountains, in the wilderness, with no vehicles anywhere near us only the sound of the birds, the horses our children and water. Eating our breakfast of oats and pollen, feeling so alive and healthy, breathing in all that fresh mountain air.
Then taking our tents down, grooming the horses before we had to put the saddles and packs on. Having that contact with these beautiful animals. Hearing my children playing near-by, hearing them laugh, watching them run wild. Then we would move out from the camp we had for the night and follow the track, getting to walk beside the horses, not knowing what we would get to see.
So many beautiful places, so many stunning views. Sometimes climbing high, reaching over 2000 metres at one point. Amazed at how my children managed those climbs, how far they could walk on certain days and all the while inventing games along the way. Really seeing their imaginations in full flow. Watching them make art in the earth.
Stopping in the afternoon to cook our lunch, rest our legs and take in the amazing views all around us. Washing ourselves in the rivers and streams we came across Getting into this rhythm everyday that was so rewarding. We are meant to move, all parts of our body and mind are meant to keep moving forward. In doing this we stay healthy and happy.
Travelling by foot feels amazing, the kids did go on the horses sometimes, but knowing that you yourself travelled these distances using only your feet to carry yo, leaves you with such a huge feeling of accomplishment. The only thing we left behind was horse manure to feed the soil. These were some of the happiest moments of my life, being free with my children.
