Back To Lemon & Honey
AND JUST LIKE THAT, SUMMER IS OVER
I'm not sure if it's the effect of the ongoing Atlantic storms, or just England being England, but summer seems to have abruptly ended. For the past week or so we've been battered by stronger than usual winds, heavy downpours and even electric storms. There has been a noticeable reduction in temperature too. For the first time since summer began I felt like turning on the heater.
Of course, summer isn't officially over, that happens in September, but it looks we're starting early this year. I do appreciate the rain though - the earth here needed it desperately.
It got me thinking of the season we're going into, and the battles we should be getting ready to fight. Atmospheric condition are starting to get very conducive again for our dear pandemic virus. I suspect we are going to get a devastating cocktail this season of coronaviruses, flu viruses and bacteria.
We have spent most of the year sanitising everything, wiping surfaces and washing our hands vehemently. While that may have been necessary to avoid contracting COVID, we have decimated all the good germs that are part of our ecosystem. We have also removed most of the bad, but weak, germs that help us build our immune system to fight against tougher ones.
The poor little babies born during this COVID madness have sadly missed out on some vital germs.
I do feel for the newborns. There is a window in very early life that the body builds immunity easily and in a lasting way. The fist year of life is so crucial for that. Many of these babies are yet to encounter those bacteria or viruses, and are in danger of doing so at a later age when they may not be as efficient at fighting them.
I also do wonder how many super bugs we are creating in the process. Like MRSA, I wonder how many bacteria strains are currently mutating to be resilient against what we are currently using to disinfect. To be fair it would take one hell of a mutation to survive soap or pure ethanol, but nature is crazy like that.
Anyway, I'm back to diligently eating and drinking lemon and lime, with a hint of honey now and again. The best way to prepare for this season is to fortify my immune system and hope for the best.
Peace & Love,
Adé
