Last Monday evening until morning my father suffered a hypertensive crisis which made him so dizzy and went wobbly as he walked. My father didn't tell us about it and my mother only noticed his unusual situation when he started to walk and father told her that he was dizzy.
Upon our investigation he ate a lot of packaged peanut a day before and it was the type that is very salty indeed because the peanuts came with a barbecue flavor. Salty foods are forbidden to most people actually especially for hypertension patients because the salt makes the circulatory system take water from the cells of the body just to balance the natural salt-water ratio and it adds volume to the circulatory system and thus straining the heart making it to pump harder for the added burden of volume it has to circulate.
But my father seems to not look at this factor nor he is aware of it. He feels that restrictions are not for him and only believes that he should only not to eat high cholesterol foods. If my mother tells him not to add or use fish sauce as a dip he just adds more and does the opposite so this situation had gone hard for a hard-headed person like my father.
I don't think he would change his diet though because his taste buds are already corrupted with salty taste. I think he can only be persuaded to do some drastic change if he was only forced to do it and nothing more. This is why we should train our eating habits at a young age by teaching our children how to eat right for the salke of a better well-being free from sickness and many food-caused ailments.
