Immunotherapy shows promise in the fight against cancer. Gene alteration may be a way to boost the immune system to improve the effectiveness of immunotherapy. The discovery of CAR T-Cell technology may be the breakthrough we have been waiting for, but what exactly is it?
Juno is now working on two second-generation CAR technologies that incorporate mechanisms to further amplify T-cell activation or to dampen it, in the case of adverse reactions.
So now it appears that T-cell activation can be amplified or dampened giving humanity much greater control over the immune system. This greater control will likely result in greater therapeutic value and safety over time. In addition a lot of diseases are diseases of the immune system and cancer in fact may be caused by a vulnerable immune system so if the immune system can kill the cancer cells then we might be able to cure cancer by suppressing it using the immune system.
