Before you start, you should know this post may contain a little bit of TMI.
A little while back, I was showering in normal routine. As it goes, stray hairs from my head like to slither their way down south and park themselves in my “intergluteal cleft.” (This is not just a woman issue either. I’ve heard of husbands who’ve had their wife’s hairs collect in their southern border as well.) Anyways, it was during this time that I felt a bump.
Uh oh!
I was immediately unnerved. See, pilonidal cysts run in my family. For those of you who don’t want to look it up, it’s a cyst that forms on your tailbone. My mom had surgery to have one removed. My cousin had surgery multiple times. Even the Old Man had surgery to have one removed. (Our poor kids!)
I decided to wait it out a couple days; see if it would go away on its own. It didn’t. It actually got worse, to the point where it hurt to sit in certain ways. Ouch!
I wasn’t going to let this thing win without a fight! As a stay-at-home mom of three youngins, there was no time for me to have surgery and recover. Ain’t nobody got time for that!
Search for home remedies
Per typical course of action, I turned to google for home treatments to get this thing under control. There were a few things listed, but one that caught my attention was tea tree oil! Hey! I have plenty of that on hand. If it meant I wouldn’t have to go to the doctor, it was worth a try!
So once a day, I’d lightly exfoliate the area during my shower. Once dried off, I’d put a few drops of the tea tree oil on my finger and dab it on that annoying bump. Combine that with switching to a non-irritating style of undergarment, and after a few days, the bump reduced in size and the pain subsided.
Thank Yah! That tea tree oil potentially saved me a load of money and invaluable time! Nowadays, I can’t even tell a cyst was ever there.
I was visiting with my cousin the other day
And I told him about my tea tree oil experience. He said if he ever got one again, he’d give that a try. He hated the recovery from surgery so much so, that he said he’d just live with the thing if it ever came back.
I can’t help but wonder if surgery is really necessary(I’m sure in some cases it is) or if that’s just the form of treatment the doctors like to push? Anyways, if I can find a home treatment that’s effective, I’m all for it!
And for the disclaimer
