Benefits of Fresh Coconut Water (no sugar added)
1. Refreshing and Rehydrates the Body
With its sweet and slightly nutty taste, you feel refreshed after drinking it especially during hot weather. Having high amount of electrolytes, I was told by my pediatrician that it can be used on my children in the case of dehydration due to diarrhea, vomiting or excessive sweating. Having said this, coconut juice is definitely a good-to-go for athletes too if they do not prefer high-sugar-content sport drink. The glucose in the juice is a form of carbohydrates that help to elevate energy level.
2. Stomach-friendly
Unlike coconut milk, coconut water is easy on the stomach. You can drink 2-3 cups per day without feeling bloated. Therefore, in addition to being a rehydration agent, nurses at hospital recommended me before to use its juice to soothe indigestion, tummy upset, acid reflux or other minor stomach problem. Perfect for little Jansen who has reflux, but it is advised to drink it at room temperature.
3. Reduce heatiness
Due to it cooling properties, drinking coconut juice helps to reduce heatiness in the body. I am a person prone to ulcers, and I realise drinking coconut juice tackles the ulcers faster than just drinking plain water. To some degree, it soothe minor headache too. This may differ from each person because each's body has different mechanism. Try it and you will find out more. But I am pretty sure by drinking it, the refreshing feeling will reduce some bouts of hangover. 😉
4. Anti-aging and anti-oxidant
While drinking coconut water will not magically make you look younger, its composition of vitamin C, calcium, potassium and magnesium aids in maintaining a healthy skin. A well-hydrated skin usually looks glowing and more youthful. Vitamin C is needed to form collagen which supports firmness and elasticity of the skin. If you are also controlling your glucose intake, you may opt for coconut juice instead of other fruit juices. Coconut water also contains other minerals, essential vitamins and antioxidant which boost our immunity system.
5. Good for heart
Since it is cholesterol-free and fat-free, coconut juice is good for heart. It lowers down the bad cholesterol and increases the good cholesterol, hence reducing the risk of heart disease. In addition to this, its potassium content helps to lower blood pressure by balancing out excess sodium. Lower blood pressure means better heart's health
I usually buy my coconut juice from this food-truck stall. Have a look!
