About a week ago I noticed what some would call a weed problem in my yard.
Dandelions sprouting up everywhere!!
Get the Round-up and get rid of those things!!
Wait just a minute...
I’m not one for dumping a bunch of chemicals all over my lawn, just to give the appearance of a well manicured yard. Let’s put these vibrant yellow flowers to some use.
I could sit here and recite all the health benefits of Dandelions but I’m not goin to do that.
Just Google it😉
You will find plenty of articles about it.
Let’s Make Some Tea
Using scissors I went around just cutting the flowers off the stems. I have no clue about how many I need to get but let’s just get a good bunch of them.
Trust me I have plenty
🤪🤪
I loaded up a little container with, I would say...
Ummm...
50
I left this one alone
Didn’t want to disturb this bee while he was working
Put some water in a pan and added the Dandelions. I soon found out that there were a lot more Dandelions than I thought.
Welp, better get a bigger pot and add some more water.
I ended up using about 3 quarts of water
Crank up and heat and bring it to the point where it is just starting to boil. stirring occasionally
Then let it steep for about a half an hour.
Starting to see some good color.
I’m a little skeptical
I’m not a big tea drinking type of person but I will have an occasional cup every once in a great while. like once a month
I have no clue how this is goin to turn out.
Use any sort of slotted spoon or scoop to get the flowers out and squish them a bit to get some of the extra Dandelion juices out with another spoon.
Now we are goin to run it through a fine mesh strainer to get any other smaller items removed from our tea
Would you look at that!!
3 quarts of homemade Dandelion Tea
If you are a person that uses any sort of chemical or fertilizers on your lawn I do not recommend making tea from Dandelions picked from your yard. Maybe find an open pasture or meadow that you know doesn’t get any sort of stuff sprayed on it.
Now We Taste
I am kind of hesitant
Not sure what to expect.
Let’s take it outside and resume the sampling process.
WOW##
That is actually a pretty darn good tasting tea.
Straight up
Without honey or any type of sweetener this Dandelion Tea has sort of it’s own sweetness to it.
Some call them weeds
I call them Free Tea makers
Until next time
Steem On
And
Stay Healthy
