Here I am Lucia again trying to find a good and virtuous topic to inscribe and share at the same time to learn about.
So the topic for today is "Facts of Sugar".
Woohoo! I never expected to discover that fructose, the component of sugar in many fruits, is a poison. An online conference by Dr. Robert H. Lustig, a pediatric endocrinologist and an obesity expert, explains it as a wake-up call for all. Although the complicated biochemistry will be a bit difficult to follow for many who do not know it, video is mandatory to eliminate ignorance and expose what the food industry is about.
The 90-minute exposure deepens the biochemistry enough to wake even the toughest minds. With so many of our foods in process, it has taken my breath away from the candles to know how many toxins are being supplied to us through supermarkets and the junk food industry.
Many babies are now formula fed by mothers who have refused to breastfeed for one reason or another. You may be surprised to learn that a single food contains as much sugar as a soda.
What this conference covers is not only the dangers but also the methods of how the liver responds to high sugar intakes. This has led me to reconsider my shakes that have recently replaced oatmeal in my breakfast menu. While I savor them for the fruit and yogurt components, my horror of the damage they may have caused now is a concern.
Without all the big words, which most would not be able to understand, the decomposition of eating sugar is as follows:
Fat around the organs and heart disease
Increases blood levels of uric acid that causes gout and high blood pressure
Increased risk of fatty liver that can cause cancer
Creates insulin resistance that leads to obesity and type II diabetes
Insulin resistance can also cause cancer
Fructose makes you eat more calories because the brain thinks you're hungry
Excess fructose can cause resistance to leptin with obesity as a result
Sugar is addictive. Who can stop eating after a piece of chocolate or palette?
Although fructose in fruits is not as harmful, it can greatly affect the liver. They also contain fiber that compensates for the damage in a certain way.
What many do not realize is that alcohol is also sugar. It has the same components and can lead to the production of aldehyde, which causes cirrhosis or hardening of the cells in the liver, preventing them from functioning properly.
