They were doing them when my daughter was in high school. Over half of the school was off sick the following couple of days. There were very few who didn't react badly to it. Those are the only facts I know about it for sure.

I believe when it was first released there were some deaths and very serous reactions, but the vaccine has been changed since then. Most of the reactions were worse when it transpired that the recipient already had HPV. The following indicates to me that there does seem to be something in that:

Because Gardasil prevents only the onset of HPV infections (rather than curing those who have already been infected by HPV), health officials have advocated that girls be vaccinated for HPV prior to adolescence (or as soon as possible thereafter) in order to head off the occurrence of cervical cancer later in life.

Personally, I'm cautious around all vaccines unless necessary. There are still too many questions around this one for me. Education on sensible sexual precautions would be my route when it comes to my daughters.
