First let’s explain what is Detox or Detoxification – in simple words it is a process of eliminating or getting rid of harmful/toxic substances from the body. Throughout the history time many cultures have done it in many different ways…
When I talk about detox, what I am talking about is learning how your body works and what you can do to support your body's natural detoxification process.
Most of the time when I read about detoxification all it talks about is the liver. The liver is a very important part of the body’s detoxification system but it is only one organ. Any good detox should start by focusing on digestion. If you aren’t going to the toilet at least once a day this needs to be your first focus. You don’t want your liver to ramp up the toxins for excretion in your body but then, because you’re constipated, have them reabsorbed while they sit in your digestive tract.
A good detoxification regime needs to focus on digestion, liver, gallbladder, lungs, kidney, bladder, lymph, blood, and skin – as these are all organs directly involved in ridding your body of toxins. It also needs to focus on blood sugar, hormonal health and the nervous system as these all have a knock effect on the detoxification system and so effects its ability to do its job.
Having a well-functioning system for excreting toxins from the body and breaking down hormones is crucial to health and longevity. It is so important because poor detoxification has an impact on so many diseases in the body – things like thyroid problems, MS, Parkinson’s, some cancers, asthma, eczema, bladder infections, diabetes, heart disease and many more.
