My cook was down with viral infection for the last few days. When she called me I told her, that the best things to do is take good rest and allow her body to hear naturally. She visited the Doctor and he prescribed her antibiotics for a week's time. Fairly in a viral anyone would feel very weak and low for the first 3 days and she was feeling the same. But she was very restless with the weakness and wanted some quick fix solutions. I advised her that she could take her antibiotics, focus on simple home made boiled kind of food and rest as much as possible. But, since she was feeling very weak, she again visited the Doctor and he advised her to consume Gatorade drink 4 to 5 bottles a day.
This is the most absurd advice that I have heard from a Doctor. This is a sports promoted drink which is high on sugar and gives that instant energy boost. No wonder, if it's filled with sugar then it will give energy boost, but is it the healthiest way to boost your energy, and specially when you are already infected with a virus and then heavy dose of sugar. I was blown off on her, but like most of the people she would prefer to go with her Doctor advise, so then I left her to her own decisions, but yes I was annoyed with her for being so foolish.
She sent me this picture of what she was consuming. I tried to explain it to her that this is not really good and if she wants she could just have 1 bottle, but she refused to listen to me and kept to her 4 bottle doses a day.
What kind of medical treatment is this, quick fixes without bothering about other implications, and I would understand if he would say 1 bottle a day. He prescribed it like a medicine 4 to 5 bottles a day. No doubt, after the 3rd bottle she was feeling energetic, but then this unhealthy drink which is high on sugar and food dyes which will increase the insulin how could a doctor suggest it so unreasonably. People also get desperate not understanding that if there is some sickness it will need time for recovery and you cannot just recover by taking excess dose of medicines and such garbs.
This is the problem with new age treatment. People want quick fixes and in that bargain they do not understand the other side effects. They do not have patience to allow the body to heal naturally and go with natural remedies which are so much safer and no side effects. They take long but they treat the problem from root level. Today morning she came home and I made her a clear mutton soup and asked her to have that now instead of her sugar filled drink to boost her energy. Hope she will listen to me and take it and not continue with the crap. I can only advice her but not force her, at the end of the day it's her personal choice.
