Dos and don'ts
- First of all do not lean your head backward or lie down, as you will make the blood flow to your throat, which can make it harder to breath. Instead of that you should lean forward.
- Second of all the best way to counter act nose bleeds is to apply pressure to the soft part of the nose for some minutes (5-15) with a tissue, then check if the nose bleed continues or not. If it continues reapply the pressure until the bleeding stops
- Third of all, you should try to stay calm, no matter how much blood you are losing. Since anxiety can increment the rate of loss of blood.
- Applying ice can also help in more severe cases.it slows down the bleeding (at least from my experience and makes the termination of the bleeding faster.
- however sometimes the nose bleed will just not stop and it would release a massive amount of blood, if this happens seeking medical attention is advised.
- finally blow on the bleed only when it is occurring as to not initiate the bleeding again. bear in mind it would increase the rate of the bleed at first. Note: if the bleed continues even after applying pressure for 30 minutes you should seek medical attention.
Types of nose bleeds
there are mainly two types of nose bleeds one more severe than the other, fortunately it is more scarce, To begin with the most common type of nose bleeds, Anterior nose bleeds, happen in one nostril. This is because it generally happens at the front of nose. This type of nose bleed usually last for a miniature amount of time. On the other hand posterior nosebleeds are severe they happen in the back of the nose and usually lead to blood coming out if the two nostrils. This type of nose bleeds go on for long periods of time, and cause a large loss of blood.Causes of nose bleeds
there are a plethora of reasons why nose bleeds may occur. Dry noses may contribute to the likelihood of nose bleeds. Noses bleeds may be caused from picking your nose, which is both obvious and known. other causes include allergies, cold, foreign objects being in the nose, being hot in the head and other causes.some serious issues though might cause bleeds. like cancer (leukemia) certain illnesses. bleeding disorders and other causes
. I have had many nose bleeds especially during my childhood.some of the weird places that a nose bleed had occurred to me is while in a swimming pool, which might cause disgust now when i think about it. i used to sometimes wake up to find my pillow is covered with blood. but sometimes the nose bleed wakes me up. and there was that one time where i had a nose bleed at the end of an exam. and i assure you that it was a source of panic. i was even send to the school doctor. Although it was not serious at all (i only released a droplet of blood).
so yeah here is some of my experiences of nose bleeds. hope it helps, and note that i am not a health professional i am speaking from pure experience.
