Addiction is no laughing matter and a silent but "mental killer" is one that is often not discussed. As virtual connections are at the palm of our hands in the form of mobile computers it can be easy to fall into the trap of losing real world connections in the form of human interaction. I bring this topic up because it seems that society is moving backwards in many areas but most noticeable in reading, writing, communication skills, and the ability to form lasting relationships. If you have spent any time having direct reports in a business organization you understand a majority of the millennial generation can be "unique" in regards to the way they express themselves. But it is not only the millennial generation that may be forming an unhealthy addiction to the internet. Older generations may be just as prone as they are realizing that they can quickly form "friendships" with virtual strangers.
If you are experiencing any of the below symptoms would suggest you seek an internet abstinence for a while and find some real world interaction. Don't worry you wont melt. .
You prefer to read Steem, Twitter, Facebook, Reddit posts etc. as opposed to a book
You experience delusions of grandeur regarding your ability to change people, places, things, and political agendas. (Typically others notice this characteristic in you first)
Your only followers/connections are on social media
You claim that you are going to quit or cancel your social media account however you find yourself logging in anyhow
You lose time at work, school, or with family due to your addiction with "friends" on social media
You make excuses for yourself with statements such as, " I don't play well with others, so I spend all my time on social media/Steem." (Try seeing a human doctor to find out why you have a social disorder)
Others on social media get you angry to the point of spamming their accounts with links in the comment section
You think your "cause" is so important that there are state backed spies following you to spoil your plans just because there are some who don't agree with everything you say
Your outlook on life, society, people is overly negative and you have an obsession with conspiracy(See a doctor as you may be borderline schizophrenic)
You can't remember the last time you went on a date, gone out for dinner, or had sex
You think having any of the above conditions is acceptable
So this is 's list and it is obviously not comprehensive as there could be many other signs of an unhealthy addiction to your social media accounts.
