Dearest fellow Steemians,
Today I am writing about my personal journey of experimenting a diet free inflammatory foods.
I have recently been travelling from Dubai to Switzerland and have experienced a drastic drop in my immune system response. I always suspected that I don't have such a high immune system because I tend to get sick rather easily compared to my husband that shares same living conditions as me.
Because I often tend to categorize myself as 'sensitive' , after getting a sinusitis few days ago and having the need to get on antibiotics again, I decided to look into what can be the source of a low immune system. Definitely not fun spending a sunny summer day in bed while feeling groggy, but my research got me to some interesting facts:
- our immune system goes dramatically down when there is inflammation in the body
- inflammation leads to disease and it is attributed for being the root of most disease (asthma, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, arthritis , inflammatory bowel disease, Alzheimer, cancer and others have been linked to chronic inflammation)
The most reassuring fact of all?
You don't have to run to the drug store for curing the inflammation in your body, you just need to do better eating choices :)!! Weeee, what great news this is!!! :)
We can cure our bodies, it is absolutely in OUR POWER
To keep it short and useful, the same food we long knew are not good for us also on the top list for creating inflammation in our bodies and should be avoided at all times:
- ANY fried foods (choose steamed, grilled or raw where possible and you'll be doing yourself a BIG favor)
- Refined carbohydrates (pastries, bread, pasta and the like)
- Red Meat and processed meat (burgers, steak, sausages, hot dogs etc)
- Sodas
- Lard, margarine or shortening (extremely bad for your fitness levels too)
The good news is that the Top Inflammatory Foods that we should be consuming are simply delicious
Here is the list and I hope more and more people will be including these in their diets:
Berries (blueberries, strawberries, red berries etc)
Lemons and Oranges
Green leafy vegetables (Bok Choy, Swiss Chard, Kale, Parsley etc)
Broccoli
Celery
Tomatoes
Nuts
Fatty Fish (Sardines, Salmon, Mackerel etc)
Flax Seeds
Chia Seeds
Coconut Oil
Turmeric (Curcumin)
Ginger
Also, don't forget to include a good clean Omega 3 supplement as our body is not able to produce this by itself. After extensive research, I found that finding a good clean Omega 3 supplement is not an easy task considering the many criterias of selection one has to seriously consider (ex:** molecularly distilled source to avoid the metal contamination, the high DHA and EPA concentration per dosage as most of the supplements offer to little, price per intake etc**) but maybe I will write a separate article on this one as this one deserves its own separate argumentation.
**For now, I do hope that I was able to leave you with some basic principles to help you make better and more informed decisions for the optimal state of your immune system. Ultimately this will affect your overall disposition, happiness levels, libido and mind clarity :)! **
These all taste FANTASTIC, why wouldn't you just prioritize them more in our everyday choices?
Eat healthy, stay fit and be the best version of yourself you can be :)!!
Till soon,
Ruxandra
