Gout is of course often heard. Often when you feel pain in your ankles, people immediately think they are suffering from gout. This guess is not entirely wrong. However, only a third of people with uric acid experience symptoms.

Recognize the symptoms
Signs and symptoms of gout often appear suddenly at night and usually these symptoms are felt for 12 to 14 hours and will subside in about 2 weeks. Here are some symptoms that can arise:
Joint pain that feels very painful and persistent. Joint pain can be felt in the ankles, toes and knees, up to the wrist and most often felt in the toes. Swelling in the joint area is problematic. This is due to an inflammatory process in the joints and inflammation occurs when the buildup of uric acid crystals in joints is battered by white blood cells as the body's defense mechanism. When the joints have accumulated uric acid and cause inflammation, joint stiffness can occur. As a result there will be limited movement in the joints.
Changes in joint shape. If gout is not treated properly, it can end in joint changes. As a result, besides being able to interfere with joint function, it can also damage the aesthetic aspects.
