Recently an article circulated FB land speaking the horrors of coconut oil. I believe that the purpose was to generate confusion and on that it was highly successful. Before you toss it out, I'd like to share some thoughts with you.
That coconut oil is "bad" because it is saturated is an idea that was first put forth in the 70's. We know sat fats aren't healthy but what we need to know is that all sat fats are not equal. Butter, lard and the like (animal fats) are long chain triglycerides. Difficult to process and digest , they can create problems in the circulatory system and have been implicated in diabetes.
Coconut oil, although a sat fat, is a medium chain triglyceride and is easily digested. It is brain food! We actually NEED fat for healthy brain function and coconut oil is a GOOD fat! Some of it's other benefits include, increased metabolism and I s use as an anti-fungal, anti-viral.
Don't throw out your coconut oil, in fact, drop a tablespoon into your juice or smoothie for added flavor, increased metabolism and satiety!
